O God, You visit the humble and You console us with mutual love. Stretch forth Your grace to our community so that we may become aware of Your coming into our midst through those whom you dwell.

Leadership Team

The Leadership Team is a sub-set of the larger membership of Abbey Way. They have committed to gather twice a month to discern and dialogue about the needs of the church. They have been affirmed through election by the membership of Abbey Way to three year terms. Serving as listeners and collaborative creators, their task is to help lead and guide Abbey Way into living out its mission and vision.

Leadership Team members include: Bob Bros, Jaime Gjerdingen, Ken Sohriakoff Caroline White, Pastor Laura Van Norman, and Pastor Jan Bros.

The pastor of Abbey Way is Jan Bros. Jan received training as a spiritual director at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation and Shalem Institute. She graduated from Bethel University with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Studies and from Bethel Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. She served at Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove, Minnesota for many years, both as a lay leader and pastoral staff, before beginning Abbey Way. Jan is ordained to Word and Sacrament as a minister of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). She serves on the Committee for Ministerial Standing in the Northwest Conference. Pastor Jan teaches as a member of the adjunct faculty at Bethel Seminary. She currently is a board member of the non-profit LitKnit.

Jan is married to Bob and they have four grown children, Jess, James, Isaac and John; one "favorite" son-in-law, Andy; two daughter-in-laws Amber and Connie; seven beautiful grandchildren, Jorden, Samuel, Teagan, Kensington, Mason, Isabelle, Aida and another little granddaughter arriving at Christmas time!; and a playful Miniature Schnauzer named Porter. In her free time, Jan loves to hike, bike, quilt, and learn and learn about church history. She is gifted in facilitating dialogue about dying well and Christ centered death rituals.

Associate Pastor

Laura Van Norman is Abbey Way’s Associate Pastor. She ministers in the areas of preaching, service, and children/youth ministry. Laura first came to Abbey Way in 2009 as our summer intern.  She holds an undergraduate degree from Bethel University and a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. She is ordained to Word and Sacrament with the Evangelical Covenant Church. Pastor Laura was a Kern Scholar and the winner of the Bethel Seminary 2013 Omark Preaching Competition (i.e. she is a pretty good preacher!) She attends Abbey Way with her husband Jacob.

Brenton Haack is Abbey Way’s worship leader. He is a gifted and accomplished musician and songwriter. Brenton comes to us as graduate from Biola University’s Music in Worship degree program. He has a Masters degree in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota and works as Music Therapist in hospice. As an acoustic artist extraordinaire, he has expanded Abbey Way’s worship vocabulary and added depth and delight to our corporate worship experience writing songs and adapting old lyrics into new hymnody.

He and his wife Missy and their children Bailey Lou, Liam and Gillian are a very beloved part of Abbey Way’s family. As a couple they have a burgeoning music career, sharing their gift of song in local coffee houses and other gathering places. If you are lucky, you will hear them sing together during worship. We are so glad they are with us.

Ministry Teams

Nursery Ministry Team

Our nursery provides care and nurture for the littlest among us. It is staffed by lay volunteers who keep a rotating schedule along with Elim folks to provide care for those birth to age 3.

Atrium Team

Our Atrium (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) for children ages three-six runs from September through May. This Montessori based curriculum introduces our little ones to the Good Shepherd. The teaching team include Connie Bros, Jaime Gjerdingen, Missy Haack, Ginny Janelle, and Jess McLean.

Kids’ Chapel Team

We love our kids at Abbey Way. Each Sunday the school age children engage together to study significant bible stories. Led by a team of dedicated adults, we desire to create an environment where the children can learn and grow in their knowledge of God and each other.

Hope Avenue

Once a month a number of Abbey Way-ers are committed to serving at Hope Avenue -- Elim Church's Homeless Ministry. On Sunday morning before worship, we work together to stock clothes in the Clothes Closet, prepare breakfast in the kitchen and converse with the men and women who come to Hope Avenue.

ReRoot Team

The ReRoot Team serves primarily as prophetic listeners, tending to the life of Abbey Way through regular conversation together about who we are and who we are becoming. The team consists of Bob Bros, Missy Haack, Peter Janelle, Jaime Gjerdingen and Pastor Jan.
