Scripture Memory / Prayer Corner / God Space for Lent

During the Season of Lent, our focus will be in I Peter 1:13-15 with an overall theme of "Be holy as I am holy."

We would like to invite you to put these verses to memory as a spiritual practice during Lent. To help engage the passage holistically, you could make a prayer corner in your home using the scripture text as your backdrop for your prayers, poems, drawings, photos, and collected symbols that express your heart's longing to God.

A Theology of Singleness

The Evangelical Covenant Church has created a plethora of resources for the edification and nurture of the local church. Here is one entitled "A Theology of Singleness" written Rev. Rebekah Eklund, Th.D. It is worth reading not only for those among us who are single but also for those who are not.

This year we will again indulge in the pancake race at 6:00 p.m. Yes, you read it correctly: pancake race.

We will gather in parking lot for the Burning of the Palms Prayer at 6:30 p.m. in preparation for Ash Wednesday.

Lenten Calendar

Here is a Family Lenten Practices calendar. (PDF HERE)  Each day there is either a prayer [P], service/almsgiving [S] or fasting [F] activity. The activities aren’t terribly time consuming and can be adapted for a variety of different ages. On prayer days, a word is given that can be a prompt for a prayer (either written or drawn). On fasting days, simple things are abstained from for a day to give the experience of sacrificing something to focus on God. On service days, a simple service activity is featured.

Happy Lent!

The Critical Journey

Saturday, February 7, 8:30 AM - 3 PM, Elim Church

Our life in God changes as we develop over our lifespan. Different developmental tasks are needed at different stages. We will explore what maturation looks like in one who seeks God while naming challenges along the way. We will use "The Critical Journey" by Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich as tool to explore our faith development through lecture, reflection and dialogue.

Register by February 1. Fee is $5 plus you will be asked to bring a food item to share for lunch.
