Prayer and Work (Ora et Labora) is the cornerstone of the monastic life. For the past four years, Abbey Way has participated in an all community retreat that holds a similar rhythm of engagement and disengagement as the monastery. Plan on being with the Abbey Way folks as we join together for our one weekend a year to serve, play and connect at our camp Covenant Pines in McGregor. Register today! Also, take the additional step to RSVP to Jan so we have an accurate list of who is coming.

Friday, May 24 - Monday, May 27, 2013

Cost: $30 per adult, ages 4-12 1⁄2 price (food cost), plus labor

Weekend begins Friday AFTER 4:00 p.m. (no evening meal provided) and ends after lunch on Monday.

This weekend is a great opportunity for all Abbey Way-ers to come together, working and worshipping in the beautiful outdoors of God’s creation. To help prepare camp for the coming summer months, Saturday and Monday will largely be spent on work projects around camp. Sunday will be spent in worship, relaxation, and time together with family and friends. Work projects will include a number of different skill areas and levels. From painting and carpentry to raking and cleaning, there will be something for everyone. Please bring cleaning supplies and tools (i.e. rags, sponges, work gloves, rakes, shovels, some carpentry tools, etc.).

We will have times of gathered prayer and fun together.

The accomodations are comfortable but camp-y with bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Bring bedding, towels, and toiletries. Don’t forget your camera, suntan lotion, bugspray and medications. Each household is also asked to bring a snack to share with others. A lawnchair may be nice to take in the lake views or watch the children at play.

If you are coming, please note the camp asks everyone to stay and work until noon on Monday.

Kids kindergarten age and up will be expected to work alongside the adults according to their capacity and attention spans.

Kindergarteners through second graders will be asked to work at simple tasks. They will be given the opportunity for longer supervised breaks but will be asked to return to work for short intervals.

Older school age children will be asked to stay focused on their projects and work with short supervised breaks. They will need to return directly to their work station after a snack and time of rest and refreshment.

Youth will be asked to keep up with the adult crews during the scheduled work portions of the day.

We will again coordinate childcare for our littlest members with the oversight of their tending shared by all able bodied adults. Jaime will oversee coordination of the schedule.

Parents are responsible for their own children’s supervision at all times unless your child’s care has been officially given to another adult. We will work out a system this year to be sure when supervision is asked of another person for a child, both the parent and the other adult know who they are responsible for and how long the care of the child is expected. All Abbey Way adults will be asked to cooperate with whatever system is established to keep all our children safe.

We ask only assigned household members have access to their own sleeping rooms and cabins. If a non=family member wants to come for a visit then an adult family member needs to be in the room to supervise. This is for the safety and protection of all participants. Thanks.
